Over the last few weeks I built six white rods for customers and one for myself. I used Diamond 2 epoxy over the guides and decals. I have used diamond 2 for years and have no complaints at all, until now. About ten days after applying, the epoxy over the decals has a slight tint of yellow. not easily noticed but still there. My customers have no problem as things stand now. My question is, will the yellowing worsen? I know there isn't anything that can be done with the rods already built so if any of you can steer me to a completly clear epoxy I would appreciate it. I still have 3 more white rods to build. All epoxis are going to yellow. Some go off a little quicker or a little sooner but they ALL do it. Nature of the beast. I'm pretty sure that diamond 2 stuff of the more recent vintage is also known as Envirotex EX74, which if you look up the mfgs literature isn't an exterior product so it may have less UV inhibitors in it which would cause it to yellow a little faster than some others. But they will all do it sooner or later. You may want to use something other than an epoxy. There are urethane finishes out there that stay clear.
I double checked and the mfg ETI says it does contain UV inhibitors but as all of us know, that doesn't stop any of these epoxies from turning yellow. They all do it more or less. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/14/2013 03:57PM by Ken Finch. Re: yellowing epoxy

Oh well, I must put this in the live and learn catagory, but from now on it will be, research before the act!!! LOL
Do any of you have any advice on what to use over white and still get the quality of a two part epoxy without the yellowing? Re: yellowing epoxy

Don, give Trondak's U-40 Dura Gloss a try. I did extensive testing of it and made test wraps on white and black blanks. I put them outside in full sun, wind, rain, and snow for over a year. All other epoxies yellowed, Dura Gloss did not. Re: yellowing epoxy

Dura Gloss is no longer offered. Hasn't been in several years. LS Supreme is the U40 current epoxy product.

I don't know if Ralph just changed the name to LS High Build Supreme or change the formulation. I will have to talk to Ralph and see. I would bet though that it is still one of the best for anti-yellowing. Re: yellowing epoxy

It's a completely different epoxy, and yes, over time it will also amber or yellow.
Dura Gloss was discontinued in 2001. ............. Re: yellowing epoxy

Well I am glad then that I still have about a gallon of it, all sealed and still fluid with no migration through the plastic bottles. It was the best and probably still is. I have no idea why Ralph would have changed the formula and name. I guess I will have to start testing the LS against the original. I have been out of touch with Ralph for quite a while, but will talk to him or Dan soon. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
