I'm thinking of wrapping a 10wt fly rod using silk underwraps. Is there any downside to wrapping with silk? Does it handle as easily as nylon? Will CP darken it considerably? Is silk more translucent than nylon if no CP is used on either? Just thinking of something a little different. Thanks, gadwall Re: Silk

Dear Gad: Silk is an alternative to nylon. It lays flatter, and is available in more colors than nylon. I have used it on ultralites and flyrods both. Downsize, it has a tendency to fuzz. Watch your thread tension. Depending on your color preserver, color alteration is a real crapshoot. My suggestion is you know you have grip and reel seat area your going to cover up with seat and cork. From the winding check to the butt, do some color AND finish tests. Your going to cover it up anyway. Run some quarter inch bands using color preserver or no color preserver. Now you can see how this is going to look in situ. May I also suggest the less you touch the thread the better it will look. KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN. Good luck. The Roundman Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
