Fly rod value

Hey guys,

A friend of mine from work wants to sell his late father's fly rod and would like to know what's a fair price to expect. It is a Fenwick Iron Feather IF-908-4. It is new, unused, never had a reel mounted to the rod though I'm sure it has been handled minimally. There are no visible discolorations on the cork handle, and to my eye, the rod looks like the day it left the factory. It has the detachable screw-in fighting butt in the same as-new condition. The rod is protected by the original Fenwick Iron Feather 4 section rod sock, and aluminum tube. The Fenwick aluminum tube shows some light marks from being in storage for all those years, and the O-ring is dried and cracked and needs replacing. The paper decal showing the Fenwick part number is still attached to the aluminum tube cap and is undamaged and clearly readable.

As I'm not really into fly fishing, I don't feel comfortable recommending a value to him so I thought I would ask you fly rod guys here what you think would be a fair price to expect for it.

Thanks in advance.

A couple of years ago there was one listed in "excellent condition" with a reel for $200.00 Google the "Fenwick Ironfeather fly rod" and you will get a number of hits.

I saw that but had no idea what the reel and line were worth.

If you want to know what it's worth, put it on @#$%&. Otherwise it's just pure speculation.

I doubt you could get more than $75 or $100 for it.

There is one on there right now with a starting price of $100 and no bids. You could watch that and see what it goes for.

I fished an 8 wt Iron Feather back in the 80's I think. High Modulus blank for the time, fished nice also, Fenwick just wasn't particular popular as a graphite fly rod manufacturer. Price noted above sounds fair.
