Are you talking about a single thread inlay? If so you may want to find the back issue of RodMaker that showed how to do it. That was you can follow the pictures which should be easier for you to understand.

Sometimes trying to walk someone through a thread wrapping procedure in words alone is not very easy.

Marcel,
Try this.....take a piece of your inlay thread about 8" long and lay it lengthwise across the rod where it is to be inserted, do this about 4 or 5 turns prior to the inlay point. Make sure you have about 4" of inlay on each side of the inlay point. Now take the inlay and do a overhand knot, crossing behind the background thread, make ~4 turn of the background thread, then pull both tag ends tight. Take the tag end on the left and pull to make small gap, cut with SHARP razor, then complete the other tag end. Continue with background thread till complete, burnish the inlay, done.
This method leaves NO starting/stopping point of the inlay and looks like a solid thread, really enhances a wrap. Additional info let me know.
