I want to build a rod dryer/turner. In an older St Croix catalog there is a picture of a large industrial dryer. I don't need one that large, but I like the concept. It has two large wheels and the rods are fastened to the outside of the wheels and the whole unit turns on a center rod. So with one motor I could spin maybe 4 or more rods depending upon how big I make the wheels. Or I can go the usual route and just have 4 single turners where the rods turn on their own axis. Seems I might come out better costwise on the first type set up. Any thoughts on how the wheel type turners work? Anything to watch out for? Any plans out there anywhere? Should be fun to build anyway. Re: dryer type choice

Check out www.allelectronics.com for a motorthey have several 120 V motors. then you need to make a shaft a straight dowel might work and two wheels of styrofoam, notch the foam to hold the rods make two stands to hold the motor end the end of the dowel and you are in business if you need a longer shaft try electrcal conduit. you will need to make a plug for inside the pipe to match the motor shaft Re: dryer type choice

I bought a Charbroil Rottiserie motor at Sears for $24.00. The 4 prong barbcue spit makes a pretty good rubber band chuck. I had to cut a 3" piece off the long skewer that came with it.I had to shim it to keep it from wobbleing.the last motor I had was a cabelas I had a homemade pvc chuck for it. the rpm on the charbroil motor is about 6. im now making a set up to increase the speed. Happy wrapping "John" Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
