tip deflection standard

Many and I do mean MANY years ago in Saltwater Sportsman Magazine I think it was. There was an article relating to tip deflection on fishing rods with a given amount of weight. It was directed mostly at surf rods as I recall and there was data from both Berkley and Fenwick. Berkley's wasn't on surf rods specifically but Fenwicks was at any rate they had lots of figures and charts and slow mo pictures but no absolutes were established, which of course makes sense. What I'm wondering is has any data been published in trade type magazines on this subject and if so where might I find it? Warren

I don't see how it could be accurate given the large amount of different rod blank materials and actions. The amount of deflection for maybe a 3 ounce weight would be different for fiberglass, graphite or some combination of the two. The action of the rod would also cause it to be different.

I'd almost think those charts were more marketing gimmick than scientific data. Then again, I could be quite wrong.
