The epoxy intended for use as an adhesive has been formulated with certain properties in mind. That designed for use as a wrap coating has been formulated with different properties in mind.

If you use an epoxy adhesive as a wrap coating, it will work insofar as it will coat the threads, but there will be some serious drawbacks. Rarely are such products very flexible, clear or good at releasing bubbles.

You are much better off using the intended product for its intended purpose.

A mess. You can use rod finish over the cured epoxy if you want to finish the entire rod.

You would never put any sort of epoxy on the rod blank. For that you would want a much thinner coating like a polyurethane or a varnish.
