I need (want) a two peice rod for inshore trout/redfish/flounder. This will be my third rod. Wife says to make it inexpensive, last blank was St Croix. Will be using 3000 series reel, fishing from kayak. 7' to 8' range. 1/4 to 1 ounce or there abouts. Thanks, John Re: redfish two peice blank

I would look at the Rainshadow Popping Blanks ... [www.batsonenterprises.com]
The IP904F would be just the ticket for kayak use. Long enough to reach around the hull when they decide to test your talent. Re: redfish two peice blank

I fish for redfish from a kayak most of the time. My favorite size rod is a 6 - 12# line weight rod rated for 1/8 to 1/2 oz lures (Medium light) - 7 foot rod. My favorite blank is the GLoomis PR842-2 GL3, however, it is expensive and hard to find. My next choice in your price range would be the Rainshadow IP843 F, 2 piece RX7 popping blank.
I have just built on a Mudhole SJ843-2 MHX travel blank 8 - 15# rated for 3/8 to 5/8 oz lures for a friend. It turned out very nice and is a good value at $54. If I were building it for myself, I would probably use the lighter SJ842-2 MHX. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/19/2010 11:51AM by Bob Riggins. Re: redfish two peice blank

John,
I have fished the SJ842-MHX for quite some time and works very well for most Trout/Redfish applications. One thing that we have just approved are the MHX popping blanks in 2pc. these should be available by the first of the year. My go to Red Drum rod is a 7' P8400 GLX with a Daiwa Certate 3000 reel. This rod/reel has been adequate for fish up to about 12lbs and I use Fireline braid. Unfortunately this blank is no longer available from Shamino BUT I would recommend a similar popping rod in the 7’ to 7.6’ range. I don’t believe that you would be disappointed with this setup.
