What's the best tool for cutting/shaping acrylic on a lathe? Looking at the pieces from Mudhole or Swampland to make reel seats. Will a plain chisel work or does it need to be a parting tool or ....?

I use a gouge and round nose scraper a sharpen tools often

You'll also need a parting tool to cut your tenons square for your hardware. A skew gives you the cleanest cut with very little sanding but if you're not used to using one a round nose scraper or 1/2'' gouge will work just fine.

I agree with MIke and to add the surefoam file is a GREAT tool for taking off acrylic, once the acrylic gets warm it cuts very well, just dont gert it too warm/hot as you'll ruin your piece with ANY tool used.

Speaking of getting hot, the acrylic heats up pretty fast when you are drilling out the piece. I drill mine before turning, and put it on a mandrel a la Andy Dear's turning video. But go slow, because you can damage the piece from the heat. Especially light or white acrylics. They can discolor.
