All,
Would like to build a 10-ft plugging rod with a lure weight sweet spot of about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 oz for throwing metal and hard plastic/wood to stripers in the NJ surf and reds, spanish, and blues in NC. Considering the lamiglas SSU series but they're lots of $$. Any alternatives? What about some of the 10'6" steelhead blanks that top out at 1 1/2 oz -- if I take 6" off the tip would that stiffen them up to the point where they'd throw 2 1/2 oz well? Thanks in advance for your help. Bilgee Re: plugging rod suggestions

Bilgee,
You should be able to find a blank that meets your requirements in the Lamiglas GSB series. [www.lamiglas.com] You may want to check the GSB 120 1L. Don Don Becker Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/13/2009 08:20PM by Don Becker. Re: plugging rod suggestions

If you go a little longer to a 11' you would want to look at a AFAW Estuary, if you can find one Re: plugging rod suggestions

You might want to look at the Batson Surf series.
The SUR1204F sounds like it would fit the bill. 10', 2 pc, 10-20# line, 3/4-4 oz lure. Here is a link; [www.schneidersrods.com] Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Re: plugging rod suggestions

Seeker has the CSW1008 10' which is inexpensive, light and tough. Lamiglas has the GSB120L or M. If you fish the jettys in Jersey the Seeker might be a better choice if it's all open beach either one would work fine. Re: plugging rod suggestions

I second the notation about the Seeker CSW1008. VERY good blank and a great bargain. The Batsons have lots of stuff along that line too. I would stay away from steelhead rods for that much weight. Why trim and try to make something work when there are good blanks out there that were designed to do EXACTLY what you want. Re: plugging rod suggestions

GSB1201L,
SSU1201M, Spr Seeker Baby ULUA I cant comment on the CSW1008, but I have heard good things about it. I have played w/ the Baby ULUA and it's as close to a glass rod you can get w/o the weight. It's a nice pencil popping rod up the weight you need. The GSB1201L has been around for a long time and still fills many voids. Very durable graphite blank. The SS is more expensive, but light, crisp, and fast recovery. I have a MH that I use exclusively, but that blank is better for heavier weights. You really cant go wrong with any of these.
