So as ice fishing season quickly approaches i decided to play around will i idea I've been milling around.

Here is the problem im running into. Cork is made to insulate temperature. with this being said its hard to get the heat to transfer through the cork and make a "warm feeling to the grip". Im looking at any ideas as to a grip material to use other than cork. I was thinking either EVA or a foam core. I just not sure how they would hold up to the heat. Ill have to keep playing around to see what will work.

So here is my question.... how do you think rod bond will hold to the heat if i use it to secure the grip to the rod. The last thing i need is the grip coming loose from from the epoxy heating up.

How much heat are you talking about? I think most epoxies will handle temperatures in the 100F to 150F range without much trouble.

should be below 100 degrees as long as i can find a better grip material

Get the rod maker back issue with the Hot Hands grip by Steve Gardner...I'll be doing one of those this winter :-)

Have you thought about using Texalium handles? The inside diameter is fairly large which should hold your heating element of choice plus battery pack

I believe Steve's Hot Handle article was in the Volume 11 #2 issue.

Save yourself the time and trouble.
There are a thousand better ways to stay warm and keep your hands warm, rather than to they to heat the handles of the rod.
The major thing to do is to use a handle that will NOT conduct heat or cold. Cork or foam is one of the best things going. Any type of aluminum handle will transfer heat well, but will transfer cold just as well. Bad choice for a handle. The other thing to do is to NOT use any rings or other plastic or aluminum to hold the reel in place. Rather, use tape to hold the reel to the handle, and to also cover the aluminum reel foot.

Then, simply have a Mr. heater or equivalent to keep your hands warm, even in the outside cold weather. The other thing that you need heat for is to keep the ice out of your guides and off your line.
