I am ready to order a set of Fuji titanium frame SiC guides for a 9-foot Graphite USA 904DH 4 weight fly rod blank. The manufacturer has told me that although the blank is rated as a 4 weight, it will probably cast a 5 weight line more efficiently, and that is most likely what I will use. I plan to order two TNLSG stripping guides, one size 12 and one size 10, four size 8, and four size 7 single foot TLSG’s and a TFST7 tip-top. My question is, does this sound like a good setup, or is there a better or more efficient way? As always, your input is greatly appreciated. Any Fuji Guide spacing suggestions would also be welcome.

I think your guide selection is fine but I'd cut out the extra #8's and just use one of those and use 7 #7's. The four size 8's aren't buying you anything if you are going to drop to a 7 anyway.

As far as it casting a 5 more effciently, I am sure that it will at short distances. At very long distances it will cast a 3 more efficiently. At 25 to 35 feet it will cast a 4 most efficiently. This is true of all 4 weight rods. As long as your're putting about a quarter ounce of line on it it doesn't matter what line weight it is. It all has to do with how much line you put past the tip.

I would go from a 12 to a 10 to an 8 and then on to size 6's the rest of the way out. The 6's are plenty big enough to fit a 4 or 5 weight line and will weigh less than the size 7's.
