I'm starting my first fly rod later this fall. Never fly fished before and I have the book on building a graphite fly rod. My question is ... Is LS Supreme a good choice of finish for a fly rod? I think I was told once to use Flex coat light. By the way.... I've tried what Ralph suggested concerning the "Football Effect" on the guide wraps. I applied the finish and turned off the Dryer. The finish saged to the bottom and I removed it. I then started it again. This most definitely eliminated that Football effect (or most of it) Thanks Ralph. and thanks to all of you. Any of the various epoxy or urethane rod finishes will be suitable for your fly rod. The final appearance will be much more a result of your finishing technique than the type finish used. Regular Flex Coat can be applied just as thinly as the "lite" version. Just as the LS Supreme can be used for a thin or hi-build coating. If you like whatever it is that you are using now, stick with it. The more you use it the better results you will get as time goes on. ........................
