Avoiding Cross Wrap Slipping !

I am about to start on a new rod using a cross wrap, and before I have always laid down a base wrap and have done my cross wrap on top of the base wrap.
This time the cross wrap will go directly on the black blank. I am concerned about the wrap possibly slipping on the blank. The cross wrap will be all metallic so no cp is required and I would prefer not to use it. Am I worrying for nothing or are there some precautions or solutions I should use to prevent slippage? Thank you again for your help. Tom Re: Avoiding Cross Wrap Slipping !

Personally I would lock down the first X of your cross wrap with CP. This way you well always have your centers. You said you are using all metallic and no CP. I would use CP if you don't use CP the wrap well have a transparent look and some of the wrap well disappear or you well get a tartan look

I would use CP also. especally (sp) where the cross wraps are. this will hold them in place with out asny slippag. Ohio Rod Builders Canton, Ohio Re: Avoiding Cross Wrap Slipping !

Unless you're using very elongated spacing, slipping of the threads shouldn't be any problem. And you want to remember that if you do chose to lock any threads down with CP, get them perfectly aligned and spaced first because you won't be able to move them afterwards.

Gentlemen:
If I use a dab of cp on the crosses, will that possibly change the color of the thread where the cp was applied? (using all metallic thread and I have Chromeaseal cp). Tom Re: Avoiding Cross Wrap Slipping !

Yes, but only by a very, very slight amount on the metallic. In the light you might never notice it. One way to know for sure, is to wrap some of that thread around a test stick, apply CP in a stripe across it, then finish and see if you can tell any difference.
