Is it absolutely necessary to do a wrap around a fiberglass ferrule? Does the wrap add any thing to the rod? Strength, durability, etc.... How would you handle a fiberglass ferrule? This is a 6# to 10# spin casting seven foot rod. Rob Re: Fiberglass Ferrules

It is common practice to provide a ferrule reinforcment wrap at the edge of the ferrule opening to reduce the chance of a split-out forming. Most ferrules provide some interior reinforcement to help in this area, but it is always a good idea to add the thread wrap reinforcement as well. A handful of blank companies will stipulate this on the header card that comes on the bag the blank is shipped in. Most don't, but it you call and ask they'll tell you to make that wrap. Use a bit more tension than you would a guide wrap and get fairly close to the edge. In most instances it is not necessary to make the wrap very long - the edge is where any split-out would form and that's what we need to protect against. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer of your blank and ask. ........................ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
