OK, tried LS on another rod last night and it worked very well thanks to many suggestions recieved on this board. The only problem I am having is "dry edges" of the wraps. I have got shape and thickness of the finish I want but I can't get it to completely cover the last threads on each end of the wraps. A little bit of finish covered, but not enough to be smooth. What is causing this? I have never had this happen with any other finish so I don't know how to correct it. I believe someone eluded to the fact that it comes from applying too much finish. Is that the only cause? The rod is level and I am getting dry edges on both ends of the wrap. Any help would be appreciated. I am beginning to like this LS stuff, but this little problem is driving me nuts. Elrod Re: Good LS Experience, but.... Elrod

Elrod If you are talking about LS Supreme, dry edges can sometimes be attributed to the time of application after mix, which translates to viscosity. On your next attempt do everything exactly the same way that gave you the dry edges, then take a tooth pick or similar sharp tool and apply a drop of resin on the dry edge. Maybe a drop in two or three places around the entire periphery of the edge. The turning rod will distribute the drops in a few minutes. This may also show you that a hard tool is better for epoxy application than a brush. There are more and more converts to the spatula than the brush companies care to admit. IS it possible yu are cleaning your blank with some sort of sovent that the finish doesn't like, say acetone or alcohol or something that leaves a residue? this may drive the finish back up onto the thread? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
