Hello,
I have a little problem. On the most castingrods I have, is the first guide mostly about 20 in. away from the upper end of the reelseat. Now I have a blank, where I would put the first guide nearer to the reelseat. About 15 in. ... Do you think this is to near to the reelseat? Regards, Jan Re: First Guide problem on casting rod

That depends entirely on the side of your reel, the width, height, etc. You can adjust the size and height of the guide, of course, to allow you to move the butt guide around a bit.

We need a little more info from you, but under normal conditions 15" is a little close, right rod right reel may be OK, I doubt it will work. Some of the Daiwa reels I have you need to be a little farther away, one rod reel combo is at 26".
Read all the article's in the library about guide placement. Re: First Guide problem on casting rod

Check out volume#9 issue #4. There is a nice one page article in that issue that can give you some more ideas of butt guide size and placement.

Thanks for your replies.
More information: Blank is 6'2'' with 1 to 2 1/2 lureweight. It is for jerkbait-fishing. I need the longer gripsection (TCS18 reelseat starts at 27cm/ 10,5 in. from the end of the rod). I want to use LN guides (16,12,10,8,7,7,7,7) with FST7. The reel I want to use, is the Revo SLX (I think a medium-size Low Profile reel). I was thinking about to get down to a 7+1 guide-set, but when the rod gets into a good bend, the line will come to near to the blank ... Any ideas? Regards, Jan Re: First Guide problem on casting rod

I'd go smaller on the guides, you don't need a 16 with that reel. The line is supposed to get real near or actually barely touch the blank at full bend if you have the guides set up right. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
