I am just about to start building my first rod, it 's a 4 piece blank. At the moment each piece is exactly the same length, however when I add the tip ring it will make the tip section slightly longer. I read somewhere that each section should be equal. Should I trim the tip section so that it is equal withe the other sections when the tip top is added or should I just leave it alone? Re: rod length

Justin, I would just leave it alone. After all,if it isn't broke...why "fix" it? so to speak... Re: rod length

The only reason they would "need" to be equal is if there is some clearance issue in the rod tube. In the past, it was also thought that the stronger butt section/s would help protect the tip in transit if the tip was no longer, or just slightly shorter than the other sections. Consider also, that after you mount the reel seat and whatever end cap comes with it, the butt section will now be just a tad longer than it is now. With luck it will be about the same length as the tip, again. ....................... Re: rod length
