Im looking at purchasing this for turning my cork grips. Does anyone have any experience with this unit. I would like to know how you attach the rod to the drill? Would I need to machine transition arbours to go from chucking dia to ID of rod/reelseat size? Any info would be appreciated

The reason I was asking is because it shows the unit looking to be chucking a fighting butt. Huhh??? I got an Email from flexcoat confirming the use of taped up arbours inside the rod for chucking. I assumed this much. Still doesnt explain how their chucking a fighting butt. Havnt had any mail back on the fighting butt question. Just an obersvation that had me stumped.

Im going to get the setup as it looks portable and affordable. Somebody on here must use one. Anybody?

I use one of the Flex Coat lathes. Most rods I build utilize Fuji rubber butt caps (e.g. BRC19). These have a small hole in the end ...all I do place a drill bit into the drill in the opposite direction and then slide the exposed solid end of the bit into the end of the butt cap. Works great.

What Bret is doing is what you see in the photo. You can use an arbor or drill bit and go through the butt cap or you can use various chucks to hold to the outside of the butt cap. The most secure method is using the metal rods with masking tape arbors inside the blank butt.

Thanks for the info and the offer but Im in the UK. I think the unit is just about right for me as workspace is limited so I can use it outdoors. I didnt like the idea of using a wrapper/lathe as I could see the dust removal becoming a nightmare at epoxy time. That dust is like baby poo!!!! I wish I had the money to buy 2. One for handle work and one for wrapping (in a perfect world). Looking forward to testing the DL 100.
