Most heavy trolling rods feature simple spacing in a progressive pattern. The first guide sits at 5" from the tip top, then the next one 6" behind that one, then the next one 7" behind that one and so on. This may or may not work depending upon your blank's length. You might consult the Lamiglas site and see what their recommendations are.

Number 1 I go by the rule of thumb (for every foot of rod you need at least one guide.) Now depending on what type of guide you are using could add to detrack the number of guides you are to use. I always use a stress test to make my final decession. Always keep a tigh line ....Bob

Hi Fred-

How long will the finished tip section be? Since the specs on the GRT180(graphite) show a butt diameter of 1.310 it won't fit a UB6 butt without modification. I know OAL to start with is 6 ft.

I think the 1.310" butt dimension of this blank (BTW- Seeker makes their IGFA180H with same dimension) was designed to fit the older FinNor seats mounted to Aftco B7 butts, not the UB6 which has a ferrule I.D. of 1.188".

Or are you building a BRT180(fiberglass and 5' 6")? There's a bit of difference in the blanks. This one fits a UB6 without mods. Let us know......

In terms of spacing the guides, you could use Barry's system, as that would put the fifth guide at 35" back from the tip, which may work, but your spacing may be a little different depending on the length of the tip section. Tape 'em on and check it out.

Good Luck- hope they come out beatiful!

Tom
