I would be interested in knowing how some of you apply finish to your reel seats. If I use a stabilized blank it only needs to be polished. On some of the harder tight graind woods I use only Tru-Oil (glossy), which is a wiping varnish. Open grained woods I heat to 200 degrees and apply System Three Clear Coat (A very thin epoxy similiar to the original LS 2000, but harder when cured) sand down and coat with Tru-Oil. I would like to be able to obtain a nice satin finish if I could.

Stick with the Tru-Oil, it is excellent. If you want to create a satin look, rub it down with rottenstone and water. BC also makes their own satin polishing compound called "Stock Sheen".

On the polished pieces, work through all the various grades and types of wheels and then go back to one of the medium or medium fine compounds and use that. This will give a satin look rather than full gloss.
